Scarcity

Scarcity

When the topic of scarcity is brought up, I actually think about abundance. It’s my way to offset the rabbit hole that I’m likely to go into if I really let myself live in a scarcity mindset.

Over the last few years, you may have heard the phrase, “Community Over Competition”. Yes and yes! If I think about who I serve and just how many families I’m actually capable of serving in a given month, THERE IS A MASSIVE ABUNDANCE! I believe, amongst peers, that keeping information close to the chest and not living in community through our business ultimately just hurts our growth.

With the limited families I can photograph, each really matter to me. I journey through an intentional process to connect with their voice through a phone call, a questionnaire to dive deeper into their family story. From that, I create a shot list specific for their family’s vision.

I believe the topic of VISION is at scarcity’s root. When I haven’t been clear on my purpose and vision, I run in circles. I have fear, anxiety, doubt = scarcity. To be honest, this space sucks. Who wants to be here? Not I.

But oh, how I have been there!!! I usually discover that I’m not being honest with myself.

Truth is, even now that I’m clear on who I love photographing most (families!), I desperately have to watch my time management. I’m a one woman show, mother of two small children, limited work hours each day. But I choose not to use that as a crutch. Instead, I’m having some honest conversations with myself about PRIORITIES. Just today, I pushed an anticipated release of photo books to be released in Spring 2019 instead. Its not the right time this Fall and that’s okay.

I refuse to let the scarcity mindset of not having enough time rob me from making wise progress for my business growth and the well being of my home-life. This photo was recently taken of my son at the beach. I love the depth of the Pacific and the simplicity of her water’s edge touching his feet. We are gifted with such abundance.

It’s up to us to choose it.
